Roly Poly,Daddys Little Fatty

I got a kick out of Oscars photos of Pete and Jeremy taking pictures of each others mouths. Then I remembered this from a few weeks back. I guess I never realized how much time we spend looking at each others teeth. In case you haven't noticed, Siobhan started a blog as well. Something that I predicted would happen within an hour of hearing about Oscars. Siobhan has tried this before but only lasted a few posts. They are already comparing how many comments they have and who gets to use the camera first. I am happy though that they are trying something out. Oscar has a new confidence about him and I am glad that their Dad and all the Salinas crew can keep up with them.
Siobhan called her blog De La Rocha. I often call her Siobhan De La Rocha. I also call her BonBon or Bonnie or Vonnie. I also call Oscar De La Roche. I started that when he was born due to the similarity with Oscar De La Hoya. He has also been called Sargeant Squank, Chicken Banana and Round. My dad started that when he was a baby. He was very short and fat and he was like a circle. It's funnier now even, seeing as he is tall and thin. I guess we are just big on nicknames. Hans is a nickname in itself. Pete calls him Jack, all the cousins call him Hansie Boy and my sister Luisa calls him Hansaroni. Olive Jane who was OJ from the start, also has been called Olive Jane Sugarhouse of Pain. Sugarhouse was almost her middle name, at my moms suggestion, due to our love of our neighborhood.
I mostly have liked nicknames. I have always liked Mattie although I love to go by Matilda now that I am older. There are about a million kids that go by Maddie or Maddy or Maddi now. In my time though, I have had quite a few other nicknames, what about you? Here's a few of mine....
#1. Chowhound. This deserves first mention, as it is a classic. I received this on vacation when I was about 8 or 9, I think. It's no secret I am an eater. There was a childs meal at Village Inn called Chowhounds Choice. I ordered it and that was enough for my Dad. That nickname just won't die and my Dad even bought me a hat that proudly declared it.
#2. Chubette. A theme, perhaps? This was from my Aunt and I don't think I heard it too often but almost every birthday card I have growing up from her has it on there somewhere. Actually, I remember this from my dad also.
#3. Matootie. Sharon still calls me this. This was an all around family nickname.
#4. Leopard. In high school my friends called my that just because it rhymed with Sheppard.
#5. Mostly though, sadly enough, in school I was called Grand Tetons, which started in 6th grade. An explanation probably isn't necessary. This was the only nickname that I can recall truly hating and being really upset by. I probably also don't need to tell you that this was a nickname only used by boys.
Hope everyone is enjoying good weather today like we are. It's giving me hope that garage sales aren't too far off. Can't wait to hear your nicknames!

Great list.

I have to hurry, so I might think of more later...

1. Letta- Then my brothers found out that my middle name was after my Great Uncle Archie(really it's my mom's middle name, she was the one named after Archie) But then it became Archie Letta

2. Thunder Thighs... no explination needed (again from the brothers)

3. Button - From my mom

4. Doll - From my dad

5. Firecracker(my favorite) - from my sweetheart(I'm glad he thinks of me this way)

And my nicknames for my kids are Toopie Toopie and Baby Chase!

I love nicknames! They are names of love!

I too was called Thunder Thighs, but only by my four grade PE teacher. However the effects are still very much with me.

Britt - because to add the "ney" is evidently far to difficult for most people.

Brita - Mainly used by Scott and Mattie.

Dukie or Duke - This started out as my niece's nickname but Scott quickly redirected it to me. He calls me this ALL the time. He also calls me Bear and Lauren (my middle name).

Bwittney - my sister's name for me.

I love my kid's nicknames - Sami is Zelda Mae and Goose and Meaghan is Mea Mea, Meagaroo and Meawho.

My all time favorite nickname is Scott's - Freak!!

1. Bubba - My aunt Ruthann started this in the hospital when I was born. Even my teachers called me this until high school. This obviously led to Hubba Bubba, Bubba Yum, etc. I won't go into Grand Tetons territory, this is a family blog after all.

2. Pan Face - My family always said I looked like someone hit me in the face with a frying pan.

3. Berniece or the Beast - exclusive to my Uncle Bo and Aunt Teresa.

4. Guera - I've worked in a lot of kitchens/restaurants.

5. Little - What David calls me.

1. Ape, Apey, or Grape Ape (the measure of true friendship is if someone uses one of these)

2. OCD Mon Chi Chi (thanks Scott and John for the 2nd half, and John for the 1st half)

3. Ito (samantha couldn't say auntie april), I am still Ito nine years later.

4. Kid (guys like to call me this-Scott, cousin Chris, Uncle Chuck)

5. Short stack (again John, thanks, but who could blame him, he is a whole foot taller than me)

6. Rev. Jimmy Dean Farnsworth, Bibleland (no, but who can pass up Fletch references) Top five Fletch quotes would make a great list.

Alex- I know you hate it but I still call think Alex Aunt was a pretty good one. All the kids call Luisa Auntie Pantie. I can't wait to hear what your kids will call me. Also, was the Grand Teton story too "adult". After years of wanting to "go under the knife" I am finally just accepting my size. Sorry for all the "finger quoating", just "speaking my truth". Love you, "chowhound"

Weedie or Weezie: Started when I was little John likes to call me Weedie Bird for an interesting twist on the name.

Cha Cha: Sharon still calls me this, I can’t remember if she started it or if I did, wouldn’t be surprised if I started it myself.

Miss Lady or Lady L: My friend calls me these, not sure why but I’ve come to enjoy hearing them.

George’s Wife: This started when I married my husband and I didn’t know anybody but his family and & friends. My pastor called me this for about a year before he remembered my name. Some of them still call me this.

My kids’ nicknames are definitely my favorites. Saul calls Elijah Shyla which amuses Mattie to no end, he often calls Nicoe Dodo. I call Malachi marshmallow or Stewie which he now responds to. We call Nicoe Nini and there is Georgie Porgy. Silas doesn’t really have a nickname, I might have to change that. Solomon is called seven by Mattie and Jacob by my Pastors wife which is really more like renaming him. Oh yeah, we call Saul Saul Paul, not sure why though?

I usually don't share these names...

1. Skinneeshka - from my dad. I guess I was a skinny kid.

2. Scone Bone - Also from my dad. As a kid I loved scones and I looked like a bone.

3. Luich Espinosa - The names my sisters and I gave eachother were very random.

4. Rosa - college roommates

5. Nish

Annisha-
Thanks for sharing. I hope that you never feel too uncomfortable, and if you do that you will just tell me to mind my own business. This has been kind of a freeing experience to reveal things that are not always flattering but I want it to be fun. Anyways, I always love to hear from you. Hope you guys are well and off the subject, have you ever read The Queenmaker?

Mattie,

No, I've never read the Queenmaker. If I was ever uncomfortable about sharing something, I just wouldn't share it. (: I only said that I usually don't share my nicknames because they're pretty silly. I love the lists. Keep them coming. hope you guys had a great weekend. I can't wait to hear about it.

1. Paddy. Being born on St. Patrick's Day this was a given. Most of my siblings morphed this into Patty which always elicited the response they were hoping for.

2. J.P. - Initials more than a nickname, my Aunt Bonnie's boyfriend Ed called me this. My father also uses this one quite a bit.

3. E.B. aka Errand Boy. The girls gave me this one after Sharon and I got together. I think it speaks for itself.

4. V.M., Victor Mature, Vic - This was bestowed on me by Sharon and her friend Sue in regards to my,according to them, lack of maturity. How childish of them.

5. I have had a multitude of nicknames at work over the last 35 years. Currently in vogue are - Taterhead, after shaving my head.
Old Shep which has replaced kid all too quickly. As Mattie reminded me the other day, she could use up her five just on names she has given me.

Grandpa Waxie-
I am so happy to see your list. I have missed "seeing" you around. It was recently pointed out to me that you and I give everyone nicknames. I enjoy that. Now I must go rest because it is only a few short days I have to come up with your birthday spectacular post! I love you Dad.
