I also keep a photo history of my Dads hairstyles.
Yesterday morning after Siobhan left for school I went upstairs to straighten her room a little. Siobhan hasn't yet figured out that if she has notes she doesn't want me to see she should tuck them away. She leaves them on her bed, or the floor, sometimes even the dining table. As I was making her bed I felt something under the mattress. She had a photo book with pictures and notes in it. I was hesitant to look in it, but I did. They were all pictures of her dad and I as well as some notes we had written. I found it kind of funny because I have the same exact thing with pictures of my parents.
As much as Siobhan and I butt heads I understand how she feels a lot of the time. Pete is a great step dad and so is John. You don't want to hurt anybodies feelings so you feel the need to hide these things away. It's not always this way. I started out really disliking John. I know there have been times he really didn't like us either, for good reason. This is the cycle Siobhan and Pete are in now. I'm confident though that someday they will get along as John and I do now. Maybe, Siobhan will be Pete's favorite as I am with John, right?. If only he didn't call every single day though....
We both are lucky . We each have step parents with thick skin. They aren't hurt or offended that we want to sometimes remember what it was like when our parents were together. Sharon is especially good at pointing out that remembering them together doesn't mean we can't love her and John. They are kind to each other and spend time together. Pete and Pat once spent a night with Siobhan and Oscar in a seedy motel in Reno when Pete picked them up for Christmas. I hope someday Siobhan will appreciate that we really try at this, not all families remain friends and work so hard to make the kids happy. Also, Dad may want to try out the Abe Lincoln look again.
So, if you were to look into my notebook you would find some of the previous pictures. Also you would find this note, one of my all time favorites. I love it because I can imagine my parents young, with a new baby. Not so long out of high school but already having a lifetime of memories together. Mostly though I like to imagine my mom reading this and being happy my dad left a note only to find the P.S. Could you maybe wash my maroon corduroys? and being totally put out.

What, no perm pictures? It would also be fun to find a picture of him in the maroon corduroys.
Alex- Was that you?? I am holding on to all my special hair/facial hair photos for a special Pat Sheppard birthday mega post! I hope you have something good to add. Maybe we can add a perm pic to the tin! Love you, M
Just for the record, I never saw those corduroys again! As for the perm, to quote Alberto Gonzalez, " I don't recall this incident"
I wasn't going to comment but I felt that it was only right to point out that John calls ME everyday and that I am the favorite. I also need to add that I don't believe there was a time that John ever disliked me.I have a great perm pic of dad that I have been saving to do something special with, lets get together and brainstorm!
I guess I should have amended that to read "there have been times he disliked me." Either way, I'm so excited! 5 comments!! And only 2 of them are from me!
Let's keep these comment's rolling. First of all, angry old man, I hope you are not insinuating that I discarded those gawdy corduroys. Maybe I turned them pink by accident. One of the things that is attractive about you is your sense of style. Remember, International Male and the Willie Smith awesome suit? Well, anyway, the perm apparently left it's mark on you girls. I would like to see a blog dedicated to John's," Grand Curl" next time. All of us are so blessed to have John and Sharon in our lives. As a family, We Rock!!!!
Love to all, Mama
Maybe if we all pitch in we can buy a new pair of really awesome maroon corduroys. I think Sharon would really appreciate it!
P.S. I don't believe for a minute that John has ever disliked any of us, we are just to awesome!
my my what a delusional bunch of stepkids i inherited. to think that any of you could actually be my favorite shows a distubing disconnect from reality.i now live out in the shed to get away from the incessant phonecalls.seriously girls, while it`s been a rocky road at times it seems to have mellowed into a great thing that i am happy and proud to be a part of.i`m really looking forward to spending time with everyone provided there are no fishing opportunities. much love to all senor juan p.s GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There will be plenty of fishingto be had, I'm sure a certain son in law will want to be involved with...
I will gladly pay big bucks for any photos of the Willie Wear suit, I miss it big time. I'm not insinuating anything but I do remember we suddenly had some "new" maroon corduroy cushions. I must say that we have been extremely blessed with awesome children, grandchildren, spouses, sons in law and extended family ! Now if you'll excuse me I have some T shirts that need the sleeves cut off.
