War Efforts

I have been watching bits and pieces of Ken Burns "The War" this past week. I would love to watch all of it but it's been on late and I have to watch TV with the captions after 8. I don't imagine that it was an easy or fun time but I think that some aspects of the wartime mentality would serve us well today. I am inspired by the amount of reusing that took place. I have a really bad habit of saving things thinking I can turn them into something really neat but not actually using them. Since it's been raining for two days I figure it's probably as good a time as any to work on some of that. This is a coat that I had bought at a thrift store for a dollar. It's a womans wool jacket that I really liked at the time. This is what I turned it into. It's a little big yet for Hans but better big than small. The corduroy is also from an old skirt. I am pretty pleased with the jacket. It's fully lined which was a first for me. I am also glad that I got this photo before it turned into a Benny Hill skit.
I really like the hood though. The fabric inside is a really neat circus animal print I found at an estate sale. I only had a small piece so this was a perfect use for it. The only problem I've had is finding toggles for it. So, maybe a trip into the city this week. Then, ....costumes. This year should be interesting.

The coat is great, but Hans's face is better. What a cute little bug he is! I miss you all so much!
