Visiting my mom recently, the subject of my early 90's cowboy obsession came up. I was into it in a big way. Cowhide purse, a rainbow of Justin ropers, Rocky Mountain jeans. It was a passing fancy, but I did it up while I was in the mode. That's kind of how I operate. All or nothing, I get fully immersed in my passing fancies. Right now Pete and I are in Deadwood mode. Upon deciding to visit Deadwood on our vacation I checked out the first season of the
HBO series.

Pete and I are hooked. We are almost finished with the second season and are waiting on the third. It's been a little difficult, there is more swearing than the Sopranos, all historically accurate of course, so we have to watch it sans kids.

It is my new passion and all things cowboy are cool once again for me. Not the new,
kenny chesney kind of stuff. No offense, but that's not really my thing. The real, pioneering cowboy, old school stuff. Olives new favorite songs are some of my grandmothers favorites. Listening to Hank Williams, whom I have always liked, reminds me of sitting at Grandmas table in the early morning.
I Saw The Light is her particular favorite and hearing her sing it is my favorite thing right now.

So, of course this trip will require some new, cowboy clothes. I have long promised my sister in law Gretchen some cowboy shirts for her boys. This was my practice and I am really, really happy with it. You can't see it well, but the front has horseshoes on each side. Now I need to get one made for Pete and his new, growing out beard for Deadwood. Then, I may have to move on to some pioneer dresses and bonnets for
Olive Jane.

So, onto the list. I know we have done favorite
tv shows. Let's do movies today. I don't think we've done that? Pete is the hands down best at movie quotes. I sometimes have to ask if something he has said is from a movie or just him.
#1. Rushmore. Pete and I must have watched this a thousand times. He was planning on wearing a version of the green velvet suit for our wedding but it was 100 degrees out. I also loved the soundtrack to this as well as all the other Wes Anderson movies.
#2. Breakfast Club. I will always remember this movie due to the fact that I took my Dad to see it at the Dream Theatre in Pacific Grove. Once again, I also have enjoyed all the John Hughes films.
#3. Amelie. I just really liked this one.
#4. The Big Lebowski. There are several reasons that I love this one, the most being that it just makes me think of when I first met Pete.
#5. Every Indiana Jones movie ever! I can't wait to see the new one. I remember seeing the Temple of Doom with my Grandma and parents in New Monterey.
I can think of a hundred others and I can't wait to see what everybody else comes up with!

1-"Almost Famous" I love the story, the music, and the memories of watching it with Lexi when she was little. She called it "Same-us". She wasn't into morning cartoons. She always asked for "Same-us" We don't let her watch it anymore now that she picks up on all of the swears. But she listens to the sound track all the time.
2-"As Good As It Gets" It never gets old no matter how many times I watch it.
3-"Big Lebowski" A long time favorite of mine and Ryan's. Another one Lexi loved to watch it and sing along to as little one. This too has been banned from Lexi's viewing, but of course she has the songs on her MP3 player.
4-"Goonies" Who didn't want to be a Goonie as a kid. I still dream about being a Goonie. On a family vacation to Cannon Beach I secretly ran down the beach pretending I was a Goonie. (I was a teenager so I had to keep my excitement on the DL.)
5-Any of the "Vacation" movies, but not a real big fan of Vegas Vacation, but I still love to watch it because it shows "The Chapel of the Bells" where Ryan and I were married.
I can't stop...
6-"O Brother Where Art Thou" This is another one that I can watch over and over again. I love the sound track. I am a big fan of old timey music and Allison Kraus.
Mattie--I agree with you on Amelie. It's hard to explain why I like it. I think it is visually a "pretty" movie. I love the color of the movie.
"Almost Famous" definately reminds me of the Benches. I think Ryan and Lexi walked with us to Circuit City to buy that. "Oh Brother Where Art Though" was the movie Pete took me on, on our first date. We have the soundtrack also, I really love it. As we are planning this vacation Pete is constantly referring to "Vacation". The kids love these as well although I have to cover eyes on European vacation. Good ones Trisha!
#1 - Christmas Vacation - It is a tradition in our family, as is Christmas Story. However vacation is watched year round.
#2 - Rudy, How can you not love this movie?
#3 - Tombstone and/or Wyatt Earp, my aunt lived in Tombstone and her husband has every book possible on Wyatt Earp. I've been to all the historical sites. I love it!
#4 - all Johnny Depp movies
#5 - Grosse Point Blank, awesome movie and soundtrack. I haven't found a John Cusack movie I didn't like.
I have to add a special mention for all John Hughes films. Sixteen Candles being my favorite.
I'm glad I'm not the only person that had a cowboy phase.
1. Pursuit of Happiness--I like movies based on a true story.
2. Kite Runner--I thought this was one of those life-altering movies.
3. Amazing Grace
4. Anne of Green Gables
5. Cinderella Man
Annisha- How was the Kite Runner? Obviously good from reading your comment, but I always wonder with book to movie. I really loved the book, did you read it? I saw Anne of Green Gables for the first time a few years ago. Despite the teasing by Pete, I really enjoyed that as well!
It's been a while since I made a list. So this week I'll do my best. In no particular order...
1. Christmas Vacation - A Lindgren Family favorite. We all can pretty much quote it word for word.
2. Four Weddings and A Funeral -Just kind of funny
3. Adventures in Babysitting - A time and a place for all movies.
4.All of the Raiders of the Lost Ark - but mostly the first "Bad dates"
5. Nothing to Lose - There is a part in it with a spider that is amazing(I hate spiders!) But at this I laugh until I cry.
There are many more I'm sure I'll think of later... but for now :)
1. Anne of Green Gables-I have all three on video and have read all the books. I can't wait for my nieces to start reading the books and seeing all the movies.
2. The Notebook- So romantic that I ball like a baby every time I see it. The best part, the first time I saw it was at home with my husband, and he just held me until the overwhelming, romantic tears subsided.
3. Trilogies(at least some used to be)- Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Pirates
4. 50 First Dates- I watch this every time it is on, I watch the DVD when I want to just chill and relax, I have the soundtrack.
5. Elf-Cracks me up.
6. Stand Up-Bill Cosby "Himself", Chris Rock "Never Scared", Eddie Murphy "Delirious", Jeff Dunham "Arguing with Myself" I own them all. I love stand up comedy.
7. Props to anything John Hughes.
8. Forrest Gump - Classic
9. Both Bridget Jones movies, the books were better, but the movies had Colin Firth
10. A Charlie Brown Christmas - This is a case of saving the best for last. I love this one so much I even have a book about hoe it was made.
Oops, sorry about the spelling error in 10, hoe should say how.
1. After Hours
2. Hustle and Flow
3. Alice in Wonderland
4. Sunset Boulevard
5. Il Postino
Wow, I did this already once, but I quess it didn't like my answers...so I'll try again.
1. The Shawshank Redemption. Absolutely the best movie ever made. Luisa, John and I can watch this over and over again. The book rocked too.
2. Braveheart. I love men in kilts with long hair and muscles. Be still my heart.
3. The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob. Your Dad, Grandma and I laughed out loud over this movie. It was fun. Your Dad was sweet enough to track it down {I'm sure it was not easy} and gifted it to me a few years ago.
4. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I love anything Gung Fu. Especially Jet Li. Bruce Lee is also a favorite.
5. The Big Lebowski. Who doesn't like the Dude?
Sorry to be so late.
1. Bagdad Cafe - CCH Pounder and Jack Palance. This has to be one of my all time favorites.
2. Little Voice - Michael Caine is great in this but Jane Horrocks steals the show. She did her own singing.
3. Mystery Train - Tom Waits, Steve Buscemi, Screamin Jay Hawkins. What more can I say?
4. Down By Law - Tom Waits again and also another by Jim Jarmusch.
5. Waking Ned Divine - An Irish film that I thought was hilarious.
For those who liked O Brother Where Art Thou I suggest Songcatcher. It's a good story with great music.
